Besides the Caves of Nerja, we have here some other monumnets you can see during your vacation here on the Costa del Sol, near Malaga. To begin your tour of monuments in Nerja, we will begin with the Iglesia de El Salvador church, built at the end of the 17th Century. From this same century, we also have the Ermita de Nuestra Senora de las Angustias. In its interior are frescos from the 17th Century.
There is also the Balcon de Europa, without a doubt the most important place in Nerja to see. It was called the Torre de las Guardas (Guard Tower) during the Arab domination, and previously there was a castle built thre during the reconquist. From there, the seaboard was watched from there to protect from possible attacks from the North of Africa or from pirates. Since then, it has always been a place that defines Nerja, being named the Balcon de Europa by Alfonso XII.
Other monuments here are that of the Monument al Rapto de Europa, from 1986, in honor of Spain's entrance into the European Union. You can also visit the Fortaleza de los Castillejos fortress, and the Acueducto de El Aguila aqueduct. |
